Firnity Discord for Confluence combines administrator scope, the connected app's Discord channel access, and each linked person's Confluence permissions. Connected users read with their own Confluence permissions. When an administrator enables All users for Find page or Link previews, unlinked Discord members can read through the app's Confluence access.

Confluence administrator roles

  • Confluence application administrators manage connected servers, global resources, and site-wide Discord access policies.
  • Space administrators manage resources owned by their spaces.
  • Linked users search and write with their own Confluence permissions.

See Atlassian's guides to Confluence permissions and restrictions and space permissions for the underlying access model.

Discord channel permissions

The full feature set can require these permissions in a destination:

  • View Channel
  • Send Messages
  • Embed Links
  • Attach Files
  • Read Message History
  • Create Public Threads
  • Create Private Threads
  • Send Messages in Threads

The exact requirement depends on the feature. Needs access means the channel is visible but one or more required permissions are missing. Unavailable means a saved channel can no longer be viewed, was deleted, or changed to an unsupported type. Restore the permissions in Discord, then select Recheck permissions.

Discord documents channel permissions in its permissions reference and explains permission behavior for threads.

Find-page and link-preview policies

Open Permissions in Global Settings for each connected server.

  • Find page can be Disabled, limited to Connected users, or available to All users. With All users, unlinked Discord members can read through the app's Confluence access. A linked identity is still used whenever one exists.
  • Link previews can be Disabled, limited to Connected users, or available to All users, and are disabled by default. With All users, unlinked Discord members can read through the app's Confluence access. A linked identity is still used whenever one exists. Enabling pasted Confluence link previews requires the Discord Message Content privileged intent. The message command does not require that intent.

If a create-page command adds members to private threads, the Discord Server Members privileged intent is required for role expansion. Keep a feature disabled until the required Discord access is available.
